What I've been up to.
Me

Gosh! Where to begin!

I guess I'll go with what comes to my mind.

Well I am still with my loving wifette [info]mynxii and I have recently celebrated my 1st year aniversary with [info]aescapulius . I love you both so much and I thank you for you support fthrough the rougher moments of my life this year. I am truly one lucky guy to have you two in my life. XO

So what esle has been happening.

Well I have mostly retired from the coffee industry. I think 8 years as a professional Barista has been a good run. Why You may ask? It has come to my attention that no matter how hard I work and have proven myself to my past employers to be a great asset to them and their company. It has always ened up the same. Me being not promised the wage I was agreed to and overall over worked and under appreciated. But aren't we all. The final straw that broke me was that the last company I was with was paying a 17year old guy with 6 months Barista training the same wage as I was! What the!? I thought that years of experience and practical expertise would of meant something to business owners? Alas no.
I will always love coffee but I think I will stick to making coffee to a selected few as well as myself of course!

This lead me to persue my other passions. Martial Arts and Film and Television. I have BA in Fine Arts so why not utilize it damn it! So I decided to started looking into expanding Rebel Empire. It has been an interesting few months but thanks to so many people with their love and support, blood, sweat and tears. We Got there!

Rebel Empire Workshops now has a permanent home in Jandakot! I look back on how far Rebel Empire has come and it amazes me that only in a year and 1 month that Rebel Empire went from 1 day a week at a Rec Hall with 12 members, to a big 390sq/m wear house with 2 level offices with and an average class size of 24 and more training days than we can poke a stick at! I am so proud to be able to see one of my dreams come true. To be able to have my own dojo by the time I was 30. Not Bad for a 30th birthday present! Thank you so much everybody who has helped me achieve this. You are amazing talented wonderful people and am glad that I am in your lives.

Like my Granfather used to say, Find a job you love, Never work a day in your life. = )

What else, During the time of September not only did I move into a new place for my business, but [info]aescapulius has also moved into my house. We also decluttered the house at the same time. The house looks the same and new at the same time but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Lots of things have changed in my life but I believe that I am exactly where I need to be.

Oh. and I have joined Facebook! I am still boggled by it but I'm getting there... *hehe*

Hybernating from the internet is over.

I was reading [info]pharaoh_katt's lj on A Question About Race.

It got me thinking while I was writing a reply that I wanted to share my view on this topic with people. (my reply was a tad bit longer than this one)

In my experience racism is all about context and perspective on the individual/s. There are two main types of racism, ignorance and bigotry both just as offensive but depending on the context and perspective. (I will get back to this...)

Racial stereotypes, or any other stereotypes serves one purpose. To create a general image in our minds on how a person looks or behaves. A shortcut, for want of a better word. It doesn't make stereotypes real by any shot but it does help you and others generate an image in your minds eye to connect to. Thinking this is not racist. Its what you do and say with said thought that makes it racist or not.

Saying this you can be bigoted and/or play stereotypes and not be racist. For example.

If you are amongst good friends.eg: I have a friend that I Call "Cracker" and he Calls me "Asian Plick" over the phone and we are both ok with that. In fact we laugh! Why? Because we know each other too well to know that it was not in a malicious manner this fits into context.

Another is if you are of the race you are stereotypically portraying it... Perspective. Saying that, You can play stereotypes and be of a different race to what you are portraying and not be offensive either. A good example of this is in Theatre. Take 'The Mikado' for instance. Most of the time I have seen this production, the majority of the cast are caucasian. I don't mind this because of the context it is in. How ever if the cast were all asian and played up to the stereotype I would find it offensive. Which comes back to perspective and ignorance again.

So what is Racist? It depends on Ignorance, Bigotry, Perspective and Context. Some of us have a better grasp on this than others. We are taught usually to let it slide and to "not make a scene" on things like this. So just remember that when you do experience it in a negative manner that you speak up, call them up on it and make them aware that in your life there is no room for racism.

You Are 64% Goth

You definitely have some gothicness going on, but you're far from being a stereotypical goth.

You enjoy certain elements of goth culture, but you're not going to be into something simply because it's goth.

It's likely that you're the type of person who totally defies labels. Good for you!

If you are into something, it's because you sincerely love it. Not because it projects a certain image.

As some of you know on my birthday yesterday I had accidentally left my wallet behind in the bathroom at work, only for it to be returned with no money...

Well today I was given a pretty card with full amount of money I had lost in it and was told strictly that I wasn't allowed to try and find out who gave such a generous donation to me. Apparently someone over heard my predicament and gave the card to the Young Boss to give to me.

The Card and Envelope:

Pretty Card

Pretty Envelope

This sort of stuff doesn't happen to me.

It has defiantly restored my faith that some people still do have integrity and honor within them. I am very fortunate that some of the ones that do, I call my friends.

To the person who gave me such a beautiful card and surprise. I thank you so very much. I know you didn't have to do such a thing, which I believe makes you a wonderful human being.

Truly inspirational. I hope one day I can be just as caring as you have been.

Pav-gazmic!
